Smooth Criminal

Brandy ran all the way to the forest, breathless. She couldn't believe she wasn't shot. She crawled into a small cave, wishing Gilbert was with her.

Gilbert sputtered curses at the commander and wrapped his hands around his neck, gripping it tightly and refusing to let go, effectively strangling the man to death, but not before he'd managed to stab him in the side. Gilbert gasped and rolled off of him, clutching his side tightly, kicking the dead man away from him. His thoughts blurred and he whimpered, wishing he knew where Brandy was. The albino lay on his stomach, unable to move while the sounds of gunshots slowly died down until it was silent. There were a few shouts from his side, but he didn't hear them, having passed out.

A small girl named Amy ran around, desperate to find Brandy. She stumbled upon the cave and brightened at the sight of her, but sad not to see Gilbert. What was left od their army was out looking or their leader, and Amy had hoped he'd be with Brandy..
"Brandy!" She chimed. "Have you seen Gilbert?! We can't find him..anywhere..!"

"Amy...I don't know. He's fighting, that's all I know," Brandy said weakly to the small child.

"No rhe fighting's stopped! We lost but..Brandy you have to help us find him!" Amy said with a worried look, it was obvious she had a crush on Gilbert, but she was only 13. "Come on." Amy grabbed Brandy's hand and hoisted her up, and began walking out of the cave before perking when she saw Gilbird on her shoulder.
"Gilbird! He knows how to find Golbert! Gilbird, find him for us!" She said and the little chick I'm roa fly zoomed off ahead of them, both girls crashing after him. Gilbird led them to the open field the two commanders had been fighting in, and happily landed on the back of Gilbert's head, nestled happily in his snow-white hair.
"Ohmygod." Amy whimpered, bringing a hand to her mouth.

"Gilbert?" Brandy screamed as she came to him.

Gilbert didn't move, but Brandy's stream brought him out of unconciousness.
"mm..n't d'd..." He grumbled into the grass, still unable to move, let alone talk.

"Is he dead?!" Amy gasped, having not heard his weak attempt to talk

Brandy ran over to Gilbert's side, crouching over him. "Gilbert, are you okay?" Brandy said as she turned Gilbert's head to face her. She didn't hear him trying to talk either so she brought her head to his chest. It wasn't a very healthy heart beat, but it was something. "Yeah he's alive," Brandy said to Amy.

Gilbert stiffened at Brandy moving him, his hand plastered to his side with blood- where he'd tried to stop the bleeding.
"St..p..." He whimpered weakly, wanting to stay still.

"Oh my god...Gilbert," Brandy said weakly. "We need a docter or something. Amy, can you try to find on?" Brandy looked at Amy hopefully.

"Uh huh, I'll be right back!!" Amy said shakily, standing up and running off to find a doctor.

Gilbert mumbled other unintelligible things into the grass, while Gilbert chirped happily ontop of his head.
"Bran..dy?" He asked weakly, a small bit of hope in his tired voice.

Brandy watched Amy run to find help, hoping she would be right back. She heard Gilbert attempting to call her name. She looked to Gilbert, smiling. "Yes, it's me," she said.

Gilbert's brow furrowed as he tried to concentrate on not screaming in pain, and on making words instead.
"Are...y'kay?" He asked worriedly. "Did..you..fight?"

"Just a couple bruises," Brandy said reassuringly. "But the question is, are you okay?"

"Aw..esome.." Gilbert managed stiffly, squeezing his eyes shut tightly.

Amy ran back, tugging their medical assistant behind her.
"I got her!" She chimed proudly.

"Good!" Brandy exclaimed. The medical assistant crouched by Gilbert.

After a few minutes Gilbert's side was all patched up and he sat back inside his tent in camp, listening to the moans and groans of pain coming from outside. He glared at the ceiling, hating himself for getting over half of his team killed.

Brandy came in Gilbert's tent. "Are you okay? You seem...depressed," She said as she put a hand on Gilbert's thigh.

Gilbert kept staring at the floor, but he put his hand on Brandy's.
"They died because of me.." He muttered sadly.

Brandy said," Don't say that. It's not your fault," she said.

Gilbert looked up at Brandy, his red eyes sad.
"Yes it is. I shouldn't..have gotten them all into this.." He whimpered.

"It was their choice. They got theirselves in this," Brandy said. "Anyway, what happens next?"

Gilbert shrugged, effortlessly pulling Brandy onto his lap.
"I don't know.." He admitted quietlty, nuzzling his face into her neck.

Brandy Wrapped her arms around Gilbert as much as possible and held him. "Gilbert...it will be alright," she said quietly. "And if it isn't, you'll always have me. I'll be there with you all of the way."

"What if they'd gotten you Brandy?" Gilbert asked, his voice slightly shaky. "I wouldn't have been able to help..or protect you.."

"The important thing is that they didn't get me Gilbert, or you," Brandy said slowly, shivering at the thought.
